Right now our 9th graders may be new to UEHS, but before you know it they will be new to colleges throughout the country. But how do they get to those colleges? What’s involved with the process? What steps can you begin to take now that will help later when your child is in 12th grade? What can you do to motivate your son/daughter to do homework so they’ll get good grades for applying to college in 12th grade? Do you feel as if it is a battle to even get your child to do homework let alone get them ready for college? We want to help you link, early on in 9th grade, your child’s academics here at UEHS with that of the college admissions process.
On November 4, 2009 at 6:30 pm in the UEHS auditorium there will be a workshop to discuss the college application process, academics here at UEHS, and strategies to strengthen the connections between the two. This workshop is designed to help parents with two main topics – what lies ahead in the college application process and what steps they can take to help motivate their child to build a solid foundation with their grades early on. We will share ideas of how to monitor homework and grades, how to get your child to be a self-directed learner, and how this ties-in with the college process and the goal of students being self-reliant and ready for college.
There is important information that you’ll want to know about the college admissions process and how that process really starts at the beginning of high school. We want to work with you and help build a family-school partnership with UEHS. Is Your 9th Grader Ready for College will be presented by Christine Coveney, Director of Secondary Education and John Lenzo, Guidance Counselor at UEHS. The workshop is a part of our 9th grade transition program.
