The Library is open from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and consists of 3 distinct rooms:

6 Stations with Encyclopedia, Magazine, CD,

and Internet Access

 

 

Let us give you a hand!  We can provide you with:

 

 

1.   AV Materials

-      software including videos, CDs, laserdiscs

-      hardware including laserdisc players, digital camera, and the more usual items

-      BOCES print catalogs of AV materials, with BOCES request forms

-     instruction in using WebMax, the BOCES online catalog

-      Our school order code is 3.8 followed by each teacher’s four digit ID number. Check with us if you don’t know your number

-      repair of AV hardware including VCR’s and TV’s

-      access to materials in NYS through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

 

2.   Research Time/ Instruction

-      sign up in Library C to bring groups/class for research. Send me a copy of your assignment or include me in your planning stage so we can pull pertinent  materials from our collection and/or borrow what is needed for your project

-      research pathfinders available

-      instruction provided in various aspects of research methodology, (Big Six Skills, reference skills, notecards, documenting sources using MLA format), and evaluation of information

-      advice on availability of materials when you’re planning a project

-      6 computers with CD ROM and Internet access

-      instruction on critical analysis and evaluation of information sources, including WWW sites

 

3.   Literature Appreciation

-      subject bibliographies available

-      books-on-tape collection

-      suggested books to read-aloud

-      book report ideas

-      sign up in Library C for book talks of non-fiction, fiction or specific genres of fiction

 

4.   Professional Consultation

-      suggestions on integrating media into curriculum

-      suggestions on approaching the internet and making it manageable

-      advice on setting up projects; designing effective research

-      information on materials available for your project ideas

-      instructional consultation on teaching to particular learning standards

 

5.    Professional  Development

-      collection of well reviewed books and tools for professional enrichment

-      searches on curricular/professional issues in on-line databases

-      access to professional collections of libraries throughout NYS

 

6.   Test Taking Facility

-      you may choose to send individual students to the library to make up missed tests.

-      make prior arrangements with library staff if sending more than 3 or 4 students at a time.

-      let us know if you prefer students to bring back their own tests or if we should put them in your mailbox.

-      put your name on all answer sheets.

 

7.   NY Times

-      You have the opportunity to order the daily NY Times for 35 cents per issue, delivered each morning school is in session

 

8.   Student Passes

-      you may send individual students to the library on the regular school passes except for periods 5 & 6

-      students who wish to use the Library during lunch or Study Hall must obtain a pass from the Library staff before 10 a.m. on the day they wish to come.

-      students will report to your Study Hall and leave at your discretion.

-      please list them on the white Study Hall passes provided to you by the Library. Indicate student names and the time they leave your classroom

-      all students should leave at the same time so we can expect them at the same time. Do not send students who have to report to other teachers during 5th or 6th period.

 

 

 

 

 

 

9.    Student Gold Key Passes

-      students who achieve high honors two marking periods in a row will receive a library gold key pass. This pass allows the student, at your discretion, to leave your class to work independently in the Library.

-      students should seek your permission before classes starts and have their keys in hand

-      passes will be revoked if students are off high honors for two marking periods in a row, or if their behavior/attitude warrants

-      this is a privilege and must be used as such. Please contact me immediately if you notice abuses of this privilege

-      students may use their Key Passes to visit the library during lunch or study hall
